چکیده

The photoviscosity effect in aqueous solutions of novel poly(4-methacryloyloxyazobenzene-co-N,N-dimethyl acrylamide) (MOAB-DMA) was demonstrated. The observed significant reduction in the zero-shear viscosity upon UVirradiation of MOAB-DMA aqueous solutions was due to the dissociation of the interchain azobenzene aggregates. Such phenomena can be advantageously used in photoswitchable fluidic devices and in protein separation. Introduction of enzymatically degradable azo cross-links into Pluronic-PAA microgels allowed for control of swelling due to degradation of the cross-links by azoreductases from the rat intestinal cecum. Dynamic changes in the cross-link density of stimuliresponsive microgels enable novel opportunities for the control of gel swelling, of importance for drug delivery and microgel sensoric applications. such microgels by using the azoaromatic cross-links. To this end, we synthesized an azoreductase-cleavable crosslinker, 4,4’-di(methacryloylamino)azobenzene, which could be cleaved by the enzyme, thus allowing the microgels to swell. Kinetics of swelling of such microgels responsive to the biological stimulus is reported herein. II. EXPERIMENTAL SECTION

Dispersion of carbon nanotubes by photo- and thermal-responsive polymers containing azobenzene unit in the backbone.

Photo- and thermal-responsive polymers containing azobenzene units in the main chain have been utilized as removable dispersants for single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in organic solvents. Intermolecular interactions between SWNTs and the polymers are reversibly controllable by tuning the trans-cis composition.

Thermo- and light responsive micellation of azobenzene containing block copolymers.

In this communication, the synthesis and characterization of thermo- and light responsive block copolymers is reported. PEO-b-PNIPAM polymers with azobenzene moieties were prepared and analyzed by turbidimetry, fluorescence, NMR and DLS measurements. A temperature controlled reversible formation as well as a light induced disruption and reformation of micellar structures in water was found.

Reversible Janus particle assembly via responsive host-guest interactions.

Reversible assembly of Janus particles was manipulated by host-guest interaction of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and azobenzene. One side of every Janus particle was modified with β-CD. Superstructures of Janus particles were formed by adding azobenzene-containing polymers to the dispersion of Janus particles. The superstructures were reversibly disassembled by adding α-CD or light irradiation.

Aggregation Control by Multi-stimuli-Responsive Poly(N-vinylamide) Derivatives in Aqueous System

Thermal and photo responsive copolymer based on N-vinylamide backbone was designed. Methoxyethyl group and azobenzene were selected to improve hydrophilicity and photoresponsive moieties, respectively. The N-(methoxyethyl)-N-vinylformamide was synthesized and copolymerized with N-vinylformamide by free radical polymerization. In order to control the nanosized structures, poly(N-vinylformamide) ...
